Slow race

A slow race is a balance contest where the last rider to cross the line without putting a foot down wins; great clutch and balance practice.

A slow race is a fun contest at rallies, club days and safety training: riders line up and try to cover a short straight course as slowly as possible. Putting a foot down or leaving the lane disqualifies you, and the last rider over the line wins.

It trains exactly the skills needed in traffic and car parks: smooth clutch control in the friction zone, light rear brake, steady throttle, eyes up and relaxed arms. Many riders are surprised how hard it is at first.

Practise on an empty, flat surface. Keep your head up and look at the end of the lane, not the front wheel, and use the rear brake rather than the front to control speed.
