Line (Line Selection)

The line is the path a rider chooses through a corner or terrain; line selection weighs speed, grip, obstacles and safety.

In riding, the line is the path you choose through a corner, section of track or piece of terrain. On the road and track it decides where you turn in, where you clip the apex and how you exit; the right line gives the best combination of speed, visibility and safety margin.

Line selection off-road means reading the ground ahead and picking a route that avoids or uses obstacles: looking for traction on roots and rocks, choosing between ruts, judging gradient and keeping an escape option if something goes wrong.

Look far ahead, because the bike follows your eyes. On public roads, a line that keeps you visible and away from the centre line on blind bends is better than the fastest possible line.
