Off-camber turn

An off-camber turn or slope tilts away from the corner, so gravity pulls the bike towards the outside and reduces grip.

Off-camber describes a surface that slopes sideways the wrong way for the direction you are going. In an off-camber corner the outside is lower than the inside, so instead of supporting the bike like a banked turn, the slope tries to push it out and reduces available grip.

Off-camber sections are common on enduro and motocross tracks, forest trails and adventure routes, and on some roads where the crown of the road falls away mid-corner.

Ride them with less lean, slower entry and smooth throttle. Off-road, stand up, keep your weight on the outside (downhill) footpeg to press the tyres into the ground, and look for ruts, roots or edges you can use as a berm. Avoid braking hard or accelerating abruptly mid-turn.
