Gap (Jump)

A gap is the open space between a jump's take-off and its landing that you must clear in the air.

A gap is the empty space between the take-off ramp of a jump and its landing. Unlike a tabletop, there is nothing to roll over in between, so the rider has to carry enough speed to clear the whole distance in the air.

Gaps appear as doubles and triples on motocross and supercross tracks and as natural drops on enduro routes. Coming up short means casing the landing or nosing into the face, which is hard on the rider, suspension and wheels.

Learn the speed on a tabletop of similar length first, walk the jump to check the landing, and commit fully: backing off on the face is the most common cause of crashes on gaps.
