Triple clamps (yokes)

Triple clamps, also called triple trees or yokes, hold both fork legs and the steering stem together and set the fork offset.

Triple clamps, also called triple trees or yokes, are the upper and lower brackets that connect the two fork legs to the steering stem, which turns in the steering head bearings. The name comes from the three tubes each clamp holds: the two forks and the stem.

The clamps set the fork offset, which, together with the rake, determines trail and so the steering feel. Aftermarket clamps for motocross and enduro may offer a different offset, rubber-mounted bar clamps against vibration or adjustable handlebar positions.

Tighten the pinch bolts to the specified torque, in sequence: overtightening can distort the fork tubes and make them stick. After a crash, check that the forks are straight in the clamps and the steering turns smoothly.
