Springer fork

A springer fork is a vintage front suspension design with exposed springs and a separate sprung leg that moves the wheel on short links.

A springer fork is an early front suspension design with large springs visible at the front of the fork. Two sets of legs are used: a rigid rear pair fixed to the triple clamps and a moving front pair connected to the wheel by short rocker links. Wheel movement compresses the springs.

Springers were common on motorcycles until the 1940s and 1950s, when telescopic forks took over. Today they appear mainly on choppers, bobbers and retro customs, and Harley-Davidson has offered modern springer models.

Travel and damping are limited compared with telescopic forks, so the ride is firmer and braking feel different. The pivots and bushings need regular greasing and inspection.
