Revalving

Revalving means changing the shim stacks and valves inside a fork or shock to alter its damping for rider weight and use.

Revalving is the modification of the internal damping parts of a fork or shock absorber. Damping is controlled mainly by stacks of thin steel shims that bend as oil flows through the piston. Changing the number, thickness or diameter of these shims changes how the suspension reacts to bumps.

Factory settings are a compromise for an average rider. A revalve can tailor the suspension to a heavier or lighter rider, a faster pace, a specific terrain such as sand or rocks, or a different spring rate. It is often done together with fitting correct springs and fresh oil.

Revalving needs special tools and data, so it is usually done by a suspension specialist. Explain your weight, riding style and problems clearly so the work targets the real issue.
