Launch Control

Launch control is an electronic aid that limits revs and wheelspin or wheelies for the quickest possible start.

Launch control is an electronic rider aid that helps the rider get away as quickly as possible from a standing start. When activated, it holds the engine at a set rpm while the rider opens the throttle fully; after the clutch is released, it manages engine power to limit wheelspin and keep the front wheel from lifting too high.

Originally a race feature, it now appears on many sports bikes, some naked and adventure bikes, and modern motocross bikes, where it works alongside a holeshot device.

Launch control reduces the risk of a bad start but does not remove it: body position and smooth clutch release still matter. Repeated launches heat up and wear the clutch, so use it sparingly outside the track.
