Detailing

Detailing is thorough cleaning, polishing and protecting a motorcycle, from wheels and chain to paint, plastics and metal parts.

Detailing goes further than a quick wash. It means cleaning every part of the bike – wheels, engine, chain, fairings, seat – then polishing and protecting the paint, plastics, chrome and aluminium.

  • Wash with a motorcycle cleaner and soft brushes; avoid aiming a pressure washer at bearings, seals, electrical connectors and the chain.
  • Dry the bike, then clean and lubricate the chain.
  • Use wax or sealant on paint, a plastic restorer on unpainted plastics and metal polish on chrome.
  • Never put wax or tyre shine on brake discs, pads or tyre treads.

A detailed bike is easier to inspect, so you notice leaks, loose bolts and worn parts sooner, and it also helps resale value. Before winter storage, a full clean and protective spray prevents corrosion from road salt.
