Alternator defects are very difficult to check without expensive special tools. "Shot through" CDI ignition units, regulators, ignition problems or poor battery charging often have their cause in a defective alternator. The damage is rarely repairable. Only the complete replacement helps.

On older vehicle models it may be necessary to unpin the pick-up cable.
